Caring for your Phalaenopsis
A few simple habits help your orchid thrive between monthly deliveries.
Light
- Phalaenopsis orchids prefer bright, indirect light — an east or filtered south-facing window works well.
- Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Watering
- Water only when the potting medium approaches dryness — Phalaenopsis dislike being constantly wet.
- Avoid leaving roots sitting in standing water; ensure the pot or outer sleeve can drain freely.
Airflow & environment
- Maintain gentle airflow around the plant to help prevent fungal issues.
- Keep your orchid away from strong air-conditioning drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Bloom duration varies according to each plant’s environment and condition — light, temperature, humidity and handling all play a part. We can’t guarantee exactly how long any individual flower will last, but with bright, indirect light and careful watering, most Phalaenopsis blooms last for several weeks to a few months.
